A WORLD IN ONE CITY

A world in one city…

What strikes visitors more than anything else about London is the sheer size of the place. Stretching for more than 30 miles on either side of the Thames, and with an ethnically diverse population of nearly 8 million, it is Europe’s largest city.

London’s traditional sights draw millions of visitors every year. From Victorian architecture to the great churches of Christopher Wren, monuments from the capital’s more glorious past can be seen at every turn. The capital’s quiet Georgian squares, riverside walks, and alleyways of the City of London are also there waiting to be discovered. London is also a surprisingly green city, with Hyde Park, St James’s Park and Green Park all within walking distance of the West End.

London is an exciting place for the visitor. London’s world-class galleries, museums and institutions have almost all been reinvented in the last few years, from the Royal Opera House to the British Museum. With the completion of the Tate Modern and the London Eye, the city can now boast the world’s largest modern art gallery and observation wheel; as well as two new pedestrian bridges, including the first to cross the Thames for over a hundred years.

London’s theatreland is in a league of its own, attracting the talents of Oscar-winning and top Hollywood actors. London knows how to put on a show and with some of the best performances on the planet, it will entertain your socks off!

You could spend days just shopping in London. If you can’t buy it in London, you may well have trouble finding it anywhere. The difficulty is in knowing where to begin! From the department stores of Oxford Street, or more exclusive shops of Bond Street or Mayfair, to the markets of Portobello Road, Camden or Greenwich, you will be spoilt for choice!

LOST IN JUNGLE

About four months ago, my friends and I went to the jungle for hunting birds. We often do it in every holiday. Before we went to the jungle, we must prepare our needs first such as Air Riffles, Bullets, Knife, Compass, Foods and Drinks. After our preparation completed, we were ready to go to the jungle.

We went to the jungle at 9.00 am and we went there on foot. After that, finally we arrived to the jungle. We saw many birds, we tried to shot it but we couldn't get any of them. We tried, tried and tried, but we only got some birds. It was different with our previous hunting. My friends and I got many birds in our previous hunting.

After we tried, tried and tried, finally my friends and I got more birds. We were tired because we were too busy with our hunting, then we decided to take a rest. We ate some foods and drank some softdrink. Unconsciously, we took a rest on a place we had never known before. After that, we prepared ourself to go back to the house. But, one of my friend asked me,

Where are we?

Then, we looked each other. Oh, we lost our way in the jungle. Then I asked my friend who brought the compass to check the direction. His name is Ade. He was a coward boy. Then he checked his bag, I saw his face looked pale suddenly. Then I asked him again,

Give me the compass, don't say you didn't bring that!

Damn! I didn't bring that.

We shocked, some of us started to panic. But, one of my friend stayed cool. His name is Hertanto, the craziest boy among us. Then he showed his bad smile to us. He said,

Hey, calm down. Let's wait until the night!

What are you talking? We lost!, my friend answered.

Ha..ha.. I know, In the night we can see many constellations. They show us the directions!, he replied easily because he knows about constellations.

I tried to call my father but there was no signal there. Then we agreed to the Hertanto's idea. We waited for the night.

In the night, we saw Hertanto was sleeping, then we woke him up. Then we asked him to show the directions based on the constellation. He point toward a constellation like a kite. He said that constellation named Crux. It shows us south direction. Our houses is in south. Then we followed the Crux. Then we saw many lights, behind the trees. That was road light. And Finally we found our village and we arrived to our houses safely.

After that moment, I never forget to bring my compass in my adventure. What a crazy and stupid experience....
